De Vries has to start at the back in Le Mans: 'It will be an exciting race'
- Cas van de Kleut
Nyck de Vries did not have a happy qualifying session for the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his Toyota. The Dutchman, together with Kamui Kobayashi and José Maria Lopez, had to start from the back due to causing a red flag at the end of the session. Consequently, all lap times were deleted.
Although Kobayashi set a lap time good for fourth place, the same Kobayashi also caused a red flag moments later, nullifying everything. Pole position in the Hypercar class went to Penske Motorsport's number six car, driven by Lotterer, Vanthoor and Estre.
Optimism prevails
Although one of the favourites for the overall victory thus has to start at the back, De Vries is still optimistic about his chances in the race. "We finished the full programme during the practice sessions, and our preparations for the race went smoothly. It will be a long and exciting race. It's my debut for Toyota in a hypercar, I'm curious to see what the race will bring," he commented on his team's website.
