Ricciardo has clear goal in mind: 'That's our mentality now'
Daniel Ricciardo is coming off of a positive weekend in Montreal, where the Australian driver has now finished a Grand Prix race in the points for the first time in 2024. The Australian driver is now more determined: he wants to challenge Aston Martin going forward.
After a challenging start to Ricciardo's season and also missing out on promotion to Red Bull Racing, Ricciardo has had a positive weekend back in Canada. The VCARB driver finished in P5 in qualifying and then scored four points on Sunday. Now, the Australian wants to fight further up the grid more consistently.
"[Challenging Aston Martin], It’s the goal," Ricciardo declared in Spain. "Canada, they jumped us in the race and had a little bit more than us on Sunday, but I think we've definitely been a lot closer than we thought to them this year. That's the mentality now moving forward," the Australian driver explained.
While Ricciardo has the competition behind VCARB on his mind, he hopes to get ahead of the British team and believes his team have a great chance of catching up in the upcoming weeks. "It's not that sixth [place in the constructors' standings] is locked in and that's it. Obviously, you always have to be mindful of your competition, but our eyes are set ahead. Aston is a team that we would love to obviously fight against more often, and we see ourselves being closer to them. Let's see, as I said, the updates and if that is something, realistically, we can be fighting them the next handful of races until the next round of updates."
