Coulthard gives Sainz advice: 'With his talent, I would opt for this'
- Jeroen Immink
It is still not known exactly where Carlos Sainz will continue his Formula 1 career. He will have to leave Ferrari after 2024 due to the arrival of Lewis Hamilton, but having impressed at the start of the season, the Spaniard seems to have teams to choose from. Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard knows what he would do if he was in Sainz's position.
"With his talent, I would opt for sporting success," Coulthard reveals in the Beyond the Grid podcast. "I wouldn't think about 2026 because nobody knows what will happen. There are rumours going around about Mercedes building a good engine and Red Bull again not. But nobody really knows until the car hits the track. If they really knew, all the teams would be building the same car," said the 13-time Grand Prix winner.
Coulthard: Sainz is 'unlucky'
"Carlos is simply unlucky that a seven-time world champion wanted to come to Ferrari," Coulthard added. As a result, Sainz is already looking for his fifth Formula 1 team. The Spaniard has so far driven for Toro Rosso, Renault, McLaren and Ferrari.
