Vowles giving every opportunity to Sainz: "This is what we can offer you"
There is still no clear indication of who Carlos Sainz will drive for in 2025 with his time at Ferrari coming to an end. Mercedes still have their second seat open with the departure of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari, replacing the Spaniard, and the poor form of Sergio Perez at Red Bull leaves his seat vulnerable. These are two of the biggest teams in F1 who still have seats that need filling for next season, but the rumours between Sainz, Williams and James Vowles will not go away.
Sainz and Vowles have been involved in conversations for weeks to discuss the opportunity of working together. The Spaniard is impressed with the leadership of Vowles and is interested in the journey that he could be a part of if he joins the British team. However, with Williams showing no improvement in 2024 and Sainz wanting to continue racing for a big team in 2025, the talks have gone quiet.
Vowles looks to put a contract 'on the table' for Sainz
However, Vowles was questioned about any new talk on a potential new signing by talkSPORT, with Vowles responding candidly: "I think not yet. I think we've been fairly forthright and open on who we'd like to sign, but that doesn't mean it necessarily happens. We know where we place in the grand scheme of things."
But Vowles then went on to talk about the potential of Sainz coming into his team, highlighting what he can offer to the Spaniard: "His dream was to be in a Ferrari or in a top team. That's not happening. And you need an adaptation period to it.
"My goal behind it is simply to lay on the table: this is what we can offer. If you want it, great. We're here. And if you don't, not a problem. We're going to find our own pathway through to things. His timeline might not be the same as my timeline is the best way of putting it to you," concluded the Williams team boss.
