Domenicali confident: 'Pitt's F1 film will be bigger than Drive to Survive'

Formula 1 has gained a huge amount of popularity in recent years. This is partly due to the Netflix series Drive to Survive, which has attracted a completely new audience to the sport. Stefano Domenicali, however, thinks Brad Pitt's F1 film will have an even bigger impact than that of the successful docuseries.
Domenicali: 'The F1 film will be massive'
The Formula One Group CEO thinks the film, in which Lewis Hamilton is participating as producer, will have a "gigantic" impact. "I think that if Netflix was big, I think that the movie – and we discussed in Hungary the plan of commercialisation and promotion – will be massive. We're going to hit a target that is not yet present," Domenicali stated in conversation with Motorsport.com.
The F1 boss goes on to say that there was one non-negotiable aspect, and that was the idea of doing something unique. He stresses how fascinating it is behind the scenes and that people will be impressed when they see how the film came about.
Shooting of the film began last year. A unique aspect of it is that filming was done during race weekends, using the 'real' Formula 1 as a backdrop. Due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes, filming was temporarily halted. This year, filming was resumed in places including Silverstone, Hungary and at Spa-Francorchamps. The Film is set to be released on June 27 2025.
