F1 Today | Norris ruins Verstappen's undefeated streak in Zandvoort
24 August at 21:00

The first qualifying session after the long summer break proved to be an exciting one in the Netherlands. Lando Norris finished in P1 ahead of rival Max Verstappen, while Oscar Piastri could finish third ahead of George Russell. Two penalties followed the session, while Toto Wolff also admitted the way he acted was wrong back following the incident between Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen at Silverstone.

Norris puts McLaren on pole position in Zandvoort

Lando Norris will start from pole position at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. The Briton put a great lap together in Zandvoort, and finished three tenths ahead of Max Verstappen at the Dutchman's home Grand Prix. Norris is not concerned about tomorrow's race start, however, talking to Sky Sports, CEO Zak Brown did inadvertently remind him of his previous mishaps.

Verstappen himself expect he lacked comfort this afternoon. George Russell was also not completely satisfied with how Q3 went for him. Two drivers from the top four teams were also already knocked out in Q2. Carlos Sainz finished in P11, while Lewis Hamilton finished in P12. The seven-time world champion was dejected following the session.

Hamilton penalised, Albon disqualified

P12 is not the position Hamilton will start from however. The Briton received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Sergio Perez in Q1.

Alexander Albon was disqualified. The Williams driver finished in P8, but now has to start from the back of the day, causing more headaches for the team. Logan Sargeant could not take part in qualifying, because of his incident in FP3.

Wolff admits mistake

Talking to AD, Mercedes team principal and CEO Toto Wolff admitted the way he acted was wrong during the 2021 British Grand Prix. A talking point to this day, on Lap 1 of the Grand Prix in Silverstone, Lewis Hamilton crashed into Verstappen.

At today's press conference, Verstappen also reacted to a rumoured meeting with the Austrian team principal. The three-time world champion answered "What meeting? I don't remember."
