Fornaroli takes F3 pole position in Monza as title battle intensifies
Lorenzo Fornaroli has won qualifying in Formula 3 for the Italian GP. The Italian was the quickest driver in Group A, and after Alex Dunne was slower in Group B, he will start from pole position at his home feature race. More importantly, the youngster earned two important points in the championship.
The drivers were divided into two groups in Formula 3 this weekend. Even with half the competing at the track at the same time, in Group A, we have already seen a red flag with five and a half minutes to go. Dutch driver Laurens van Hoepen and Kacper Sztuka crashed into Lesmo 1, as the there was a huge traffic jam in the that area of the track, because no one wanted to go first.
In Group A, the Italians were leading the session. Fighting also to win the Formula 3 title as well, Leonardo Fornaroli was in P1 ahead of Gabriele Mini, similarly to the championship at the moment. British driver Luke Browning only finished in P7 in this group.
Driver in Group B with unever numbers on their cars were not eager to go out on track quick either, and began driving out with seven minutes to go. Similarly to Group A, another traffic jam formed this session too, as no one wanted to lead out the pack until Parabolica. Alex Dunne won the second group, however, his time was not quicker than Group A winner Fornaroli, so the Italian earned two more important points in the championship. The Italian now leads the championship by three points ahead of Mini.
