As reported by
GPblog on Tuesday, the ball is in play:
Adrian Newey is moving from
Red Bull Racing to
Aston Martin. The official announcement of the partnership can be expected within days, at least before the next Grand Prix in Azerbaijan. Newey choosing the British team will bring joy to
Lawrence Stroll, the owner of the
Aston Martin F1 Team.
Following his announced departure from Red Bull, Newey has reached agreements with the Austrians on when he can announce where he will continue his career. That moment is almost here. As a result,
Lawrence Stroll - the father of
Aston Martin driver Lance - cannot shout the hiring of the master designer from the rooftops (yet). Speaking to
Bloomberg, he did, however, already cautiously discuss the Briton's arrival.
Stroll: 'Newey most talented person in F1'
"Adrian and I have been talking not only for months but actually for years. Adrian is clearly the most talented and gifted individual in F1 based on his track record and history. So I'd be very excited for Adrian to join our team, as I think every other F1 team on the grid would feel exactly the same," Lawrence Stroll said.
It is still unclear what role Newey will fill at Aston Martin. For example, the team have already brought in Dan Fallows as technical director, chief technical director Enrico Cardile (formerly
Ferrari) and Andy Cowell (CEO, ex-Mercedes). Getting all these experts to function in a well-oiled machine, with no hassles arising, could be quite a challenge.
