Verstappen disagrees with the stewards in Baku: "Why...?"
Entering the final laps of the race, the battle between Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz for P3 ended in the barrier at the Azerbaijan GP. The Dutchman, who eventually finished the race in P5, did not understand the stewards decision of deploying only the VSC.
Sergio Perez was on his way to a podium finish until he ran he crashed with Carlos Sainz on the straight after exiting Turn 2. The two were also in each other's way earlier this weekend, where in two different free practice sessions, both impeded the other once. The crash of the duo was indeed a big on during the Grand Prix, with many parts flying off.
Verstappen doesn't understand VSC in Baku
Race control then opted for a VSC session instead of deploying the Safety Car. Defending champion Max Verstappen found that decision strange, he told GPblog and others following the race. ''Straight away a safety car. Yeah, I don't get it. I mean, there are two cars flat out in the wall. I don't understand why it needs to take so long. Double yellow, why?'' said the Dutchman.
The Red Bull Racing driver cannot get his head around the race organisers' decision. ''Just put a safety car. There's nothing going to happen. The track is completely blocked with dirt everywhere, damage. Why a virtual safety? Just put a safety car out,'' he concluded in Baku
