Verstappen anticipates improvements: 'Gave us some ideas'
Max Verstappen believes Red Bull's "big turnaround" in the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix weekend could be a sign of things to come. He explains how it has given Red Bull some ideas for future events as he claims the team are now heading in the right direciton.
Verstappen finished FP2 as the 15th fastest driver on Friday. He was off the pace and often had to use the run-off areas as he battled with his RB20. But during the meaningful sessions in Singapore, Verstappen was right behind his title rival, Lando Norris, to ensure he limited the damage as much as possible.
Was it the biggest turnaround for Red Bull?
Verstappen has a 52-point lead over Norris with just six Grand Prix weekends remaining. The Brit has finished ahead of Verstappen in recent weeks. "We always want to do better, and we'll analyse a lot, and hopefully, we'll come out stronger in Austin and from there onwards."
Was it the biggest turnaround for Red Bull this F1 season? "It was a different direction that maybe gives us some ideas for the future. It was a big turnaround, but the, biggest? I don't know. It's always difficult to say," he explained.
Formula 1 is currently on a break period. The action will resume towards the end of October at the United States Grand Prix. Red Bull has previously explained that they expect to feel the full force of the upgrades in Austin, which is a more traditional circuit style. Verstappen agrees, though is concerned about street circuits such as Las Vegas.
"Probably street circuits, we’ll struggle. More normal tracks, a little bit less. Pretty pleased, but still a lot of work to do. We know that. Hopefully, now we can really kick start things," he concluded.
