Franco Colapinto has revealed what his "plan A" is for after the 2024 season. The Argentine driver came into the world of Formula 1 after he replaced Logan Sargeant for Williams after the American was sacked, but will only have until the end of the season, as he does not have a seat for 2025.

Since coming into the premier class of motorsport, Colapinto's pace and results have been superb, continually keeping up with teammate Alex Albon since his first race at the Italian Grand Prix. In just his next race at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the 21-year-old earned some fantastic points for the British team after taking P8, just two seconds behind Albon in P7 in what was a great double points finish for the team.

However, despite impressing since coming into F1, the chances for the Argentine to continue in F1 look very minimal. Williams have finalise their driver lineup for next season, with Carlos Sainz joining the British team alongside Albon for 2025, meaning there is no opportunity for Colapinto to continue racing where he currently is. Sauber's second seat is the only one remaining on the grid, but there are not too many rumours linking Colapinto to that seat.

Colapinto "has no idea about options"

Speaking to Autosport, Colapinto said his main hope is that an opportunity to race for Williams in F1 becomes available very soon: "I would love to get an opportunity in the future with this team [Williams]. If not, I have no idea about options, but my plan A is to stay in the team. They invested a lot in me since I was in the younger categories, and I'm grateful for all of that."

The 21-year-old does not seem too concerned about his future in the world of motorsport at the moment without checking out the different options, as he just wants to focus on racing in the pinnacle of motorsport for the rest of 2024: "I'm trying to do the best I can and focus on myself. The results are starting to come, which is very positive, so let's see what we can do in the next few races.  I think there are good races for us to come."

Colapinto may not know about his options, but a move back to F2 while waiting for his opportunity in F1 is definitely an option. MP Motorsport wants to bring the Argentine back to his former team for the 2025 season, which team boss Sander Dorsman exclusively told GPblog in a previous interview.
