Vasseur has trust in the FIA after Red Bull case: 'I have every confidence'
Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur is confident that the FIA has acted correctly around Red Bull Racing's T-Tray case. Red Bull came under fire at the start of the United States Grand Prix weekend after a ride height system, which possibly provided them with an advantage, was unveiled. Ferrari is sure that the FIA has acted correctly surrounding the case, with Vasseur being 'sure' the FIA is doing its job. The Frenchman also provided his expectations for the weekend after sprint qualifying.
Red Bull Racing has come under scrutiny in recent days. The Milton Keynes-based squad's so-called 'bib system' allows the ride height of the car to be adjusted. This also includes the possibility to adjust the ride height under Parc Ferme conditions, where any setup changes are strictly forbidden. Ferrari and Fred Vasseur are instead focusing on what lies ahead in front of them. The third-placed Italian team are 75 points behind first-placed Red Bull in the constructor's standings and will line up in third and fifth place for the sprint race in COTA.
Vasseur: "The FIA is doing its job, I have every confidence"
It has since been revealed that the FIA is not planning on penalising Red Bull due to a lack of evidence of a breach. Instead, they've been keeping a close eye on the RB20. Speaking to the Italian branch of Sky Sports F1, Vasseur expressed confidence in the governing body: "If Red Bull really did modify the car in the parc fermé, it would be more than cheating, that would be a huge thing. But I don't know the details, the FIA is doing its job. I have every confidence in that," Vasseur explained.
Vasseur also looked ahead to the sprint race at the Circuit of the Americas. The Frenchman admitted that sprint qualifying did not meet his expectations but hopes his team can perform better in the race itself. "I was hoping for a better result, but we have the pace to make up for it," Vasseur reassured Ferrari fans.
After today's sprint race, qualifying for Sunday's race will follow. Ferrari looked quick in the only practice session of the weekend, with a one-two led by Carlos Sainz. Charles Leclerc was just 0.021 behind his teammate, and both drivers will be hopeful they can take victory at the second of three races in the USA.
