Chance to impress for ex-Ferrari junior Shwartzman in Mexico City FP1
- Jeroen Immink
Robert Shwartzman will drive for Kick Sauber in FP1 at the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend. The former Ferrari junior driver will be provided with some more mileage in an F1 car after most recently coming in to drive in a rain-affected FP1 in Zandvoort at the Dutch Grand Prix. The 25-year-old will be replacing Zhou Guanyu in the session and will hope to impress at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.
Shwartzman was a part of Ferrari's Driver Academy for many years, and with the Scuderia's close ties with Sauber, Ferrari's talents have driven for the Swiss team in order to provide them with experience in F1 machinery. That is what Charles Leclerc did, as he competed for Alfa Romeo Sauber in his rookie year in 2018 before he made the switch to Ferrari in 2019.
