Optimistic Piastri can sense help for Norris: 'Then there's bigger swings'
Oscar Piastri believes it is still possible for Lando Norris to beat Max Verstappen and become the 2024 Formula 1 World Champion. The McLaren driver admitted his teammate races an uphill battle but sees how Ferrari and Mercedes could allow Norris to create a bigger "swing".
Norris has to bridge a 47-point gap to Verstappen with just four Grands Prix and two sprint races. In recent weeks, Ferrari has been strong, with both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc win a race. Piastri sees this as something Norris can benefit from.
How Mercedes and Ferrari can help Norris
"I think it's possible. It's certainly not an easy task. In some ways it's up to both drivers. Lando can't just win every race and have Max finish second because Max will still win. It depends a bit on the results. It's obviously a very tight fight with the top three teams and Mercedes occasionally now still. So the swing either way can still be quite big at the moment, I would say. I think it's possible. It's going to be tough, but I think it's doable," Piastri said.
The Australian suggests that if Norris can finish ahead of Ferrari, it might create a bigger delta from Verstappen. That can work the other way around as well. Ferrari will be expecting another good weekend as they try to keep their 100% Grand Prix winning streak during the current triple header.
