Christian Horner responds to F1 criticism of Max Verstappen

Horner sees Verstappen "answering critics" by ending winless run in F1

Christian Horner saw Max Verstappen answer his critics after his impressive performance during the Brazilian Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver won from 17th on the grid after a week, which saw many, including Damon Hill, criticise his driving style.

Verstappen picked up criticism for his driving style in battles with Lando Norris. The week before, in Mexico, Verstappen picked up two ten-second penalties in one lap for actions on Norris. Hill once compared him to Wacky Races villain cartoon character Dick Dastardly. Verstappen hit back during the press conference, explaining that he knew what he was doing as he was a three-time World Champion. Hill also highlighted how several rules were introduced because of the Dutchman's behaviour.

How Verstappen silenced the critics

According to Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing's team boss, this is the best thing Verstappen could have done to silence the critics. "There has been a lot of comments that have been made and opinions that have been voiced against Max and the way he drives. The best way to answer those critics is to produce the drive that he did today," Horner said after the race.

Red Bull also ended a winless run. Before Brazil, Verstappen hadn't won a Grand Prix since June. "We've watched a lead that has been diminishing since before the summer break. Having not won since June, it was great to hear the Rolling Stones playing again in the garage in memory of Dietrich Mateschitz that we play every time we win a Grand Prix," Horner said.
