Hundreds of Brazilian F1 fans chant 'Tu tu du du, Max Verstappen'
In his second year in Formula 1, Verstappen became a crowd favourite in Brazil by driving from P16 to the podium, another wet race. The moment when he narrowly managed to keep his Red Bull out of the wall is etched in the minds of many an F1 fan. There was even talk by some fans at the time of "the reincarnation of Ayrton Senna". The Brazilian racing legend was known, among other things, for his strong performance in the rain.
However, after the bitter battle with Lewis Hamilton, who is much loved in the country, for the 2021 world title, Verstappen was not warmly welcomed by some of Brazil's racing fans. However, there was little sign of that last Sunday when the three-time world champion took to the podium. The whistling and jeering of previous years were exchanged for the Max Verstappen song and chant. Watch the footage here.
