Ferrari ready to challenge Las Vegas Frederic Vasseur
Today at 09:00

At the Brazilian Grand Prix, Ferrari did not have the same success as at the previous two events, where they won back-to-back Grands Prix at COTA and then in Mexico City. Team principal Frederic Vasseur is optimistic about the upcoming weekend, where he hopes his team can achieve another good result.

The Sunday at Interlagos was one to forget to Ferrari, after Charles Leclerc won in Austin, and Carlos Sainz could repeat that result a week later in Mexico. In Brazil, Leclerc finished in P5, and as a result, Ferrari could only collect 10 points. That is two points less than what McLaren achieved in Sao Paulo.

"Last year we were in good shape in Vegas, for sure. I think in terms of layout, tarmac and so it's more close to the track before," Vasseur said in Brazil. Last year, Verstappen won in the United States, but Charles Leclerc could start from pole position and finished in second place.

Moreover, in Brazil, Carlos Sainz crashed out. According to Vasseur, the Spaniard will bounce back in Las Vegas. Of course, given that a loose cover does not damage his car this time. "I'm not worried about this. I think he will be back in Vegas very strong. Last year Vegas was a good example, he started on the wrong side of the weekend last year with the drain cover."

While Max Verstappen and Leclerc were penalised this year for swearing, last season, Vasseur was also given a reprimand by the stewards in Las Vegas for his behaviour at the press conference after Sainz's car was damaged. "I was thinking about what I have to say that to avoid that…," the Frenchman laughed.

Time to score 'big points' for Ferrari

Currently, the gap in the constructors' standings between McLaren and Ferrari stands at 36 points. "I don’t want to lose some points, I want to make points. We have to do better weekends than this weekend [at Interlagos], but it's not a drama. We'll have a much better weekend next race in Vegas and it's where we'll have to score the big one," the Frenchman added.
