Alonso praises Verstappen: 'Can still learn from him'
Max Verstappen can pop the champagne in Las Vegas metaphorically, and the Dutchman was already given a beer at the press conference, after he secured his fourth Formula One title. The most experienced driver on the grid, Fernando Alonso also shared his verdict on the Dutchman confirming his victory in the drivers' standings.
"Big congratulations. This one has to feel very special to him, I imagine, because the car is not maybe as dominant as last year," Fernando Alonso reacted to Verstappen earning his fourth title to GPblog among others following the Las Vegas GP. With the Dutchman being able to finish ahead of Lando Norris in the 'Sin City', he has now equalled Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel's number of championships in the competition.
The experienced Spaniard could only praise the Red Bull Racing driver, pointing out one weekend where he could best show his talents as well. "I think he did an incredible performance this year to put the car in a position that it was not maybe realistic. The best example is Brazil one weekend."
Alonso has now competed in more than 400 Grands Prix in the competition and also won the 24h of Le Mans, therefore, he has already seen a lot in motorsports. Still, he said he can still learn from Verstappen to this day. "This is all down to him, I think this year and he was the best. Always things to learn from a driver like him in this kind of performances this year," the Aston Martin driver concluded.
