Max Verstappen is still with Red Bull Racing until the end of 2028, but that doesn't take away from the competition's dreams of bringing in the four-time world champion. Mario Andretti, the newly appointed director of the board of the new Cadillac F1 team, is no different.

Andretti says he has enjoyed watching Verstappen immensely this season during an exclusive interview with GPblog. "He sure did not disappoint. I mean, he didn't have it very easy by any means. You could see that as a driver, he made the difference, no question, even when it's compared to his teammate, unfortunately.

"But fortunately for him, he was able to extract the maximum that could be extracted out of the equipment at the time. And he just, he did it. He did it. And kind of gave him credit where it's due. He's something special. A special, special talent that doesn't come along very often. So, yes, it's very fitting. And I'm happy for him because, like I said, he earned every moment of it," Andretti said.

Verstappen and Herta a duo?

The American, world champion in Formula 1 in 1978, is looking for two drivers for the new Cadillac team for 2026. Andretti revealed that Colton Herta should be the first name, with an experienced F1 driver alongside him. Put to Andretti by GPblog that Verstappen would be the ideal recruit, the American then responded with a resounding, "Yes!".
