Red Bull looks back at Abu Dhabi '21: Verstappen takes first title in F1
Three years ago to the day, Max Verstappen became a first time Formula 1 world champion beating Lewis Hamilton on the last lap in a nailbiting showdown at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Red Bull Racing looks back at this epic moment in motorsport with a video of the race at the Yas Marina Circuit from seasons back. This moment marked the beginning of an impressive run of successes for the Dutchman. A few weeks ago, in Las Vegas, Verstappen managed to clinch his fourth consecutive title.
It was undoubtedly one of the greatest finales the sport has ever known: the historic duel between Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen at the Yas Marina Circuit. The video shows Verstappen crossing the finish line, followed by a frenzied pit crew behind the fences and an emotional Verstappen on the onboard radio, the moment he realised what he had achieved.
Since his first Formula 1 world title, things have only gotten better for the 27-year-old driver. A little over two weeks ago, Verstappen secured his fourth world championship in the premier class of motorsport, all of them achieved in a span of less than three years.
