Farewell to Perez's father from F1: These were his best statements
- Ludo van Denderen
The departure of Sergio Perez is also the departure of Antonio Perez Garibay, the much-discussed father of the now ex-Red Bull Racing driver. The politician, invariably with a broad smile as soon as he sees a camera, was always known for his pithy, hilarious and sometimes controversial statements. GPblog has listed some of his most legendary remarks.
"The best of Checo Perez is yet to come. I am sure Checo will have the means to fight for the world championship in due course. I am very excited and I can tell you that Checo will be world champion."
October 2024
"Checo has a lot of potential. He is the most sought-after driver in F1 at the moment and above all, he has the most sponsors, more than Max and Hamilton put together. The best promoter of anything in the world is Sergio Perez. There is never any merchandising left from him because it always sells out very quickly."
April 2024
"I still feel that between Max and Checo there are a few thousandths in Max's favour, and on the difficult circuits they are evenly matched."
May 2023
"Right now, Checo Perez is the most famous person in this country, in the world and in Latin America."
November 2024
"Dr Marko is the best, the best supporter in the world that Checo could wish for. He has a winner's mentality and pushes Checo. I love that and I love Dr Marko!"
October 2023
"We have Checo Perez for the next two years [in F1] and we haven't seen the best of Checo Perez yet."
November 2024
"Thank you very much. We are all set for 2025. The best drink in the world. Globally."
November 2024
"The lying journalists are already looking for me. Promise me to publicly apologise whoever the liars are. They or yours truly. On Monday, I will publish the list of lying journalists and lying media."
November 2024
"Max feels Checo's hot breath through his helmet. He hasn't had a teammate like that before, because they were all a lot less."
November 2022
"I hope one day he surpasses Max, then I would have an F1 world champion for a son."
April 2024
"I don't know if he [Ralf Schumacher] was in love with Checo. Do you get it? It's just strange things. You no longer know whether he is a journalist, a woman or a man. But his opinion doesn't matter, not because of Checo Perez, but because of things his [ex-]wife said."
November 2024
"What Checo is doing from the start of this season is learning to drive the car with Verstappen's driving style. Earlier, he tried to adapt the car to his own driving style, but the car measures up to Max's driving style. That is what Checo is learning."
April 2024
"If Checo had had this opportunity from the start, like other young drivers, he would have been world champion several times already."
