Piastri sees room for improvement: 'Made things difficult for me at times'
- Ludo van Denderen
Oscar Piastri can call himself world champion. Not as a driver, but with his team Mclaren. Last season they managed to capture the constructors' title in only the Australian's second season in Formula 1. Obviously, he wants more in 2025: The drivers' championship too. Nevertheless, Piastri looks back on the past year with satisfaction.
"I think a good improvement from my rookie season, but still room to go," Piastri told media including GPblog. "I think a few races at the start of the season, a few races more recently have not gone as well as I would have liked. And I think also as a team, there's some races through the year that we would have liked to have executed a bit better. But I think especially in the middle part of the year, I was very happy with the level I was performing at."
Piastri sees room for growth
Last season, Piastri won two Grands Prix and finished fourth in the championship. In short: "I think I showed some pretty clear progress from last season. I think mainly in qualifying, I've made life too difficult for myself this year, but I think last year in a lot of the races, I wouldn't have had the tools to get back through. Whereas this year I feel like I have. So I think on a personal note, it's been a good improvement, but still some room to go."
Perhaps even the world title is in it for him in 2025. Johnny Herbert, for example, revealed last week that he suspects it will be a battle between Lando Norris and Piastri in '25, whom he rates highly.
