Verstappen on relationship with Norris: 'Idiots always make it much worse'
- Corwin Kunst
Things are still completely fine between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, the Red Bull Racing driver stresses in the podcast Talking Bull. The four-time world champion believes social media definitely contributes to making everything much bigger than it actually is.
Verstappen and Norris had their first collision in their championship battle when they fought for the lead at the Austrian Grand Prix, and incidents followed later in the season in the United States and Mexico Grands Prix. Especially after the race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit that saw Verstappen receive two time penalties, the respect between the two seemed to have disappeared. But that was only for a moment, and the Dutchman would like to clarify once again.
"People always make it really a lot worse on social media. There are a lot of idiots on that platform that always have something to say, something to complain about. There are a lot of positive people, but also some proper idiots. I think it's better just to ignore all of that," said the 27-year-old on the Talking Bull podcast.
"Lando and I, we got on very well. Of course, at times it got a bit tense on track but off the track, that shouldn't matter. We always try to do the best we can on track to get the best possible result," Verstappen continued. "You're fighting for the World Championship. I think it's normal that these kind of things can happen, but we're good."
Verstappen on the Brazilian Grand Prix
The most sensational race of the season for Verstappen was definitely the Brazilian Grand Prix, driving to victory from P17 at a rainy Interlagos. A great day, but would he want another Grand Prix like that next year?
"I wouldn't want to relive Brazil because it was so emotionally draining that day that I cannot do that again. It's the same as reliving my first title that day. I think that day I would die. People that saw me that day, especially my girlfriend Kelly [Piquet]. She came into my room before the race and normally I'm not really that nervous. You're just well prepared, and there might be some nerves that you want to do well. But she said my hands were ice cold. You really don't want to relive these kind of moments. They're amazing to look at, but not to relive."
