Coulthard slams Hamilton after a tough 2024: 'The biggest disappointment'
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
The 2024 season had its share of highs and lows. After the longest season in F1 history, the winter break offers a chance to reflect. David Coulthard has named Lewis Hamilton as the driver he believes was the biggest disappointment of 2024.
Even before the season began, the surprise announcement came that Lewis Hamilton would join Ferrari in 2025. With a full season still ahead, the Briton faced an extra challenge. Throughout 2024, Hamilton was consistently outperformed, especially in qualifying, by his teammate George Russell.
'Hamilton is the biggest disappointment of 2024'
First, Coulthard mentioned Logan Sargeant as the biggest disappointment but didn't count him fully because he was dropped after Zandvoort. "Of the year, we saw Williams drop Logan Sargeant, which, with the greatest respect to Logan, has worked really well for them. And they brought Colapinto in, and he has done a good job."
The Scot also told Viaplay that Hamilton was his biggest disappointment of the full 2024 season. "If we put Logan to one side, I would have to say that Lewis has been the disappointment, and I know that's controversial in that he's a seven-time world champion, he's a winning machine, but I've never seen this Lewis in Formula 1." The former Williams, McLaren and Red Bull driver said.
Hamilton has officially become a Ferrari driver today and will be hoping for a better campaign with the iconic Italian team.
