Verstappen explains the biggest difference: 'You don't feel that on the sim'
- Estéban den Toom
Max Verstappen is obviously known as a big fan of sim racing. The reigning Formula 1 world champion was asked during a livestream what the biggest differences are between sim racing and racing in real life. Verstappen sees differences, but also quite a few similarities between the two worlds.
"I think the biggest difference is, of course, the G-forces. So (everything you feel) in the real car, I mean, everything like accelerating, braking, cornering; that's something that you don’t feel (in simracing)," Verstappen explained. However, the Dutchman also sees many things in sim racing that are similar to real racing, he went on to say.
"How you work on the setup, how you work out strategies... And as you see now in this race as well, you know, it's raining (so) you have to make the right call to be on the right tyres. It's exactly the same as in real life. You're working off a radar. So for me, I would say it's like 90, 95% (the same)," Verstappen concluded.
No luck at Daytona yet for Verstappen
On behalf of Team Redline, Verstappen entered the race. However, things did not go so great for the 27-year-old driver, as he crashed, losing the lead position, and also racked up an 80-second penalty by driving into the pit lane in an unsafe manner twice, receiving 40 seconds on each occasion.
