Hamilton knows why he is successful: 'Otherwise I'd be a different driver'
- Ludo van Denderen
Lewis Hamilton hardly seems to have any free time. If the new Ferrari driver is not active on an F1 circuit somewhere in the world, he is busy with his Project 44 or one of his many other pursuits. Talking to LinkedIn, Hamilton explains how he gets so much done in a relatively short time ánd how important this is for his personal development.
For Hamilton, it's pretty simple. To succeed, you have to prioritise. "Before you add anything else to your plate, you should first make sure you have the bandwidth and the hunger to really explore something new," Hamilton argues.
So - explains the Briton - he only takes on a new project if he has the full commitment to make it a success. "I don't do anything by halves and give everything as much of my time and energy as can, but I only have so much time away from the track, so choose partners and projects that really align with my values and what I want to achieve."
Hamilton likes to step out of his comfort zone
Hamilton states that you learn from new things, by which he seems to be alluding to his move from Mercedes to Ferrari. "I've been in my sport for so long that it would be easy to get stuck in old habits or stay in my comfort zone," the seven-time world champion says.
"When I'm working on a project outside of my sport, I have to look at things differently and that ultimately gives me a new perspective on what success looks like, and how I can get there."
Ultimately, the insights he gains from this also have a positive impact on how Hamilton performs on the track. "When I get behind the wheel after some time away, that new perspective comes with me and it drives me to better myself each and every race. I wouldn't be the driver I am today without the work l've done away from track."
