Vasseur will miss the “consistent” Sainz: “A great advantage for us”
27 January at 11:00

Despite the fact that it was Ferrari’s decision to cut Carlos Sainz loose, team boss, Frederic Vasseur has lauded the Spaniard talent for his work during his years at the Scuderia and he believes Sainz virtues, which were a great advantage for the Italian team suring his tenure there, will set him up for a ‘doing a great job’ at his new team, Williams.

'Carlos is always at 100%'

It is not secret Sainz and former teammate, Charles Leclerc, had a few tense on track moments, however, they always managed to hash them out off track and maintained a very healthy relationship throughout their years together at Ferrari, something Vasseur recognises citing Sainz' character. "The human factor that he was able to transmit and the collaboration with Charles Leclerc have been important," said the Frenchman to DAZN in the network’s new documentary on the #55.

For 2025 however, the dynamics will change with the addition of seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, to the mix. Something the Spaniard was lauded for was his consistency and his ability to perform to the car’s potential, which the Brit failed to show in his final year with Mercedes. "Carlos is always at 100% and is very consistent. This has been a great advantage for us, because when he was not in the top positions it meant that the car was not there either," adding that this trait was a key factor that helped Ferrari in their development of last year's car, the SF-24.

Which traits will help Sainz deliver at Williams?

In F1, the team’s dynamic is very important, as McLaren’s 2024 success and in the opposite case, Red Bull’s woes during their time of internal turmoil, clearly showed. That team cohesion, a leadership characteristic, is something that Sainz also demonstrated during his tenure at Ferrari. "The collaboration with the team has been crucial. During these years he has been able to create a great relationship with everyone."

Will Sainz and Williams make their way to the top of F1 together? Vasseur shares his prediction on the new partnership's future and believes, "Carlos is going to do a great job with Williams. I wish him and James Vowles the best. I know them both very well and I am sure they will have a great relationship," citing Sainz’ rich skillset: "He has the ability to adapt and, in addition, the advantage of experience. He will be able to cooperate with the team easily," concluded the Frenchman.
