Daniil Kvyat is set for a return to single-seaters. The Russian has reached an agreement with DS Penske to take part in the rookie test in Formula E, which takes place in Jeddah next month.

The former Toro Rosso and Red Bull driver will drive Maximilian Günther's car over the 40-minute session on 13 February. The seat is set to be made for him next week so he fits in the car, and Kvyat will do a session in the team's simulator as well.

Return to formula cars for Kvyat

For Kvyat, this (short) adventure would mean a return to driving a formula car. After he left Formula 1, he did some testing in IndyCar and also Formula E, and drove (temporarily) in NASCAR, IMSA and the World Endurance Championship. Last year, he competed for Lamborghini, however, the Italians have decided to not to continue their WEC programme.

Apart from a few races in IMSA, Kvyat has plenty of time left for testing in other classes, like he will do so in Formula E, for example. The Russian seemed be on the edge of getting a contract in the series several times already, but it never materialised for one reason or another. For instance, Kvyat was on coruse to sign with Mahindra in 2019, until he got another chance with Toro Rosso in Formula 1. Perhaps his next test with Penske will lead to a permanent seat for the 2026 season.
