Debate | Lindblad will drive his first F1 race already in 2025
With two races to go, Arvid Lindblad can no longer be caught, and therefore secured what he travelled to New Zealand for: He now has all 18 super license points added to his name. The adventure should set him up for the next step already, and the question seems to be: By when will that happen?
Lindblad now has enough points
After finishing fourth in the F3 championship last season, it was announced that Lindblad will graduate to Formula 2 for the 2025 season. Ahead of that however, he had to complete a quest in the Formula Regional Oceanic Championship, in order for him to have enough points for a F1 super license.
The driver, who was called the biggest talent of the Red Bull Junior Team by Helmut Marko, therefore can now nearly drive at a Formula One weekend. Until he turns 18 this August however, he would need dispensation to own either a super license or a 'Free Practice Only Super License.' Afterwards, there will be nothing 'standing in his way'.
In recent years, no driver was fast-tracked this way by Red Bull. Therefore, the team must want to put the driver in at least a Racing Bulls car as soon as possible, even for practice sessions to test him for 2026. Moreover, Red Bull do not shy away from changing drivers mid-season. Nyck de Vries was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo in 2023, then the Australian was replaced a year later after the Singapore GP by Liam Lawson.
Therefore, in some cases, the Red Bull family could already give a chance to Lindblad as early as possible if they believe that the youngster is their best junior candidate: Either if Isack Hadjar fails to deliver in his debut campaign, or if Liam Lawson cannot deal with the enormous task of being Max Verstappen's teammate, and a driver from Racing Bulls needs to be promoted.
