Idris Elba invests in motorsport! The famous actor joins Formula E
World-famous actor, Idris Elba, has become an investor in Formula E team Cupra Kiro. Elba, who is known for film such as Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom or the TV series called Luther, looks forward to this next adventure. The Briton will be joined by a group of well-known names as well.
Together with the actor, owners of major sports teams are also involved, such as Tony Ressler (Atlanta Hawks) and Larry Berg and Shaun Neff (Los Angeles Football Club). They will also be joined by media entrepreneurs Navid Mahmoodzadeh, Steve Bornstein (Genius Sports) and Rick Hess (Evolution Media), along with other consultants.
Elba is a British actor, producer and musician, known for playing many different roles in films and in series as well. He first became known internationally through playing Stringer Bell in The Wire and then he gained further fame playing Inspector John Luther in the series Luther. He is also a DJ and a musician, under the name DJ Big Driis. Now, as he is also passionate about motorsport, Elba has set his sights on investing in the newest team on the Formula E grid.
Elba on joining Formula E
Elba's interest in Formula E began in 2018 when he attended the Paris E-Prix and test-drove a Gen2 Formula E car. "Formula E is at the perfect intersection by blending sport and global entertainment with sustainability. I’m proud to be joining the grid with CUPRA KIRO at this pivotal moment. The team’s vision for the future, desire to innovate, and commitment to excellence resonate with me on a deep, personal level, and I’m looking forward to playing my part in its journey to the front of the grid," Elba said.
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds is excited about the group of new investors that joined Cupra Kiro. "The arrival of this new investor group marks a transformative moment for Kiro Race Co and serves as a resounding endorsement of its strategic growth plan. This impressive group brings unparalleled expertise and a diverse, well-rounded perspective that will catalyse growth not just for the team, but for the entire championship," the CEO concluded.
At the Sao Paulo ePrix, Dan Ticktum could score the team's first points finishing in P8, but further points did not materialise during the weekend in Mexico City. His teammate, David Beckmann is yet to finish an ePrix this season.
