Is McLaren the favorite for 2025? Vasseur: 'Difficult to predict if there will be one at all'
Speaking to select media after Ferrari's shakedown of their 2025 car, team principal, Frederic Vasseur addressed the hierarchical order in Formula One and gave his thoughts on McLaren's status as the favorite to take both titles this upcoming season, and his answer foretells a long hard-fought season ahead for all teams.
Are McLaren the clear favorites, or are Red Bull Racing's and Mercedes' chances taken at the same value as the Woking-based team's? "Last year, it was a very good season for F1 overall because the first part of the season it was Red Bull, then it was us, then McLaren, then Mercedes, then we came back. And it was like this all the season," said Vasseur to select media, including GPblog.
"It means that it's very, very difficult to make a prediction on who will lead the pack this season and if someone will lead the pack. As you said before, we were fighting until the last corner of the season with McLaren and we have to build up the 2025 season on this one, on 2024," added the Frenchman.
Ferrari's 'relentless quest for perfection' approach won't change in 2025
Speaking on whether Ferrari will change their approach to the 2025 season depending on their results last year, Vasseur answers. "But we won't change the approach because we did well or not. The last two races of 2024, it's just that we have to push to continue to develop the car, to continue to improve in every single pillar of the performance into the team in every single department. And the approach is this one and the mood is a good one," concluded Ferrari's team principal.
