Former driver ok with the FIA getting booed: 'They make a mess of it'

The celebratory evening at the O2 Arena was marred by one thing: the booing of Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen and Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner by British fans during the F1 75 Live event at London's O2 Arena. Christijan Albers was a witness to it all and now expresses his displeasure toward the events that occurred during Formula 1's celebration.

In De Telegraaf's podcast, Albers first touched on the negativity towards Verstappen, which did not seem to be so bad. After all, according to the former F1 driver the Dutchman was also welcomed by many. Therefore, Albers says: "I wonder if it was for the team or for the one gentleman?"

That one gentleman was Christian Horner. Why exactly a fellow Brit was the target of the booing, according to the podcast's hosts, it would have to do with the alledged transgressive behaviour the team principal was accused of at the beginning of the '24 season. "He was surprised too," Albers said of the boos. "You could see he was getting uncomfortable."

Albers doesn't agree with the booing of athletes

In general, Albers has little sympathy for such booing. "Apart from what you think of someone, I do take issue with this kind of thing. I just don't think it's nice. Whether it's Christian Horner or Domenicali, or whoever," the former F1 driver says.

When a screen showed the FIA in view, the motorsport federation was also a target of the crowd's displeasure. "Well, I think that's ok, I have to tell you honestly. The rest I don't really think is appropriate. The FIA is just making an incredible mess of things. That's a completely different topic," Albers concluded.
