Will it be McLaren or Red Bull Racing? Who will come out on top in 2025? Lando Norris or Max Verstappen? Most fans are waiting for the new season to start to see who will take the lead in the championship fight. Former Formula 1 driver Christijan Albers sees McLaren as the favourite and thinks Red Bull could be in for a tough season, he told a Viaplay press event attended by GPblog.

In the last week of February, all Formula 1 drivers and teams completed a pre-season test. Spanning over three days, drivers took to the track at the International Bahrain Circuit to test the new cars. It was not only Verstappen who has indicated that McLaren seems to be the favourite for the world championship, but also Former F1 driver Albers.

About pre-season testing, Albers said, "It is of course very difficult. That's what the test days are for, of course. It's a bit of hide-and-seek. How much fuel are the teams using? How much engine power? But if you really start analysing, you will see that certain McLaren long runs were particularly fast. You then see that Max and Liam still had some issues with mechanical grip, which they also suffered from last year,"

He continued, "My feeling is actually that the key guys who have been snatched away from Red Bull are going to make more progress. Then I'm talking about McLaren, who really has an edge over Red Bull."

Like most fans, Alber says "I'm just very curious to see how Red Bull is going to develop through the season. I think it's just going to be pretty tough. Of course, we are only talking about Red Bull and McLaren, but the team that has taken the most risk is Ferrari," the former Minardi driver concluded.
