F1 Today | Verstappen unhappy with sleeping Red Bull, Ferrari target pole
It's only hours away from the first relevant session of the first Grand Prix of the season and alreay controversy is spiking up the off track narrative. It's time for F1 Today.
Max Verstappen unhappy with sleeping Red Bull
Of course, it was only the first day of a long season ahead, but in the Dutch camp the conclusion has already been drawn: this car is not good enough. The feeling is that the team has been sleeping during the winter break, even though there were plenty of indications that it needed to change course drastically after what was a very mediocre second half of the 2024 season.
Why Red Bull failed to build a better car than its predecessor during the winter? GPblog understands that Red Bull simply does not know what the solution is, to make the RB21 as fast as its rivals' cars. If that is indeed the case, it will be a particularly long season for the always extremely ambitious Max Verstappen.
Leclerc warns: 'We are in a better position than in Bahrain!'
"The feeling in the car was good and we had a solid first day on track. There is still some margin for improvement in terms of the balance, which is the same for everyone across the paddock, given that these cars are still pretty new to all of us and we have to push to understand their limits," Leclerc explained in Ferrari's press release.
However, the Monegasque, though aware that it's only Friday, seemed a bit more daring, and highlights that Ferrari should go big on Saturday. "It’s too early to come to any conclusions. We will only get a first idea of the respective pace of all the teams in qualifying. All in all, it was a good day and we look forward to tomorrow, when we want to target pole position."
