Helmut Marko has high hopes for the Australian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen managed to surprise himself in qualifying at the Australian GP. The Dutchman finished in P3, and only behind the two McLaren cars. Red Bull top advisor Helmut Marko was positive after the session, and has great hopes for the race on Sunday.

The top advisor was happy to see his team match until at least the latter part of the track. "We are very satisfied and we were on par with Norris until Turn 11, when our tyres didn't play along," Marko began to Sky Sports DE.

Marko hopes for rain on Sunday

Red Bull also particularly struggled compared to McLaren in Sector 3, where Turn 11 also is. He continued: "We had this problem all weekend, but it got better and better. But that's why it wasn't enough for a better position."

For Sunday, the Austrian has very high hopes. After all, there is a good chance of rain during the Australian Grand Prix, that suits Max Verstappen really well, especially after his statement victory at the 2024 Sao Paulo GP. The defending champion won that race starting from P17 on the grid. "If it rains tomorrow too, then this starting position is ideal," Marko said, who also claimed he already bet on a Verstappen victory tomorrow.
