Christian Horner has positive news for fans of Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen. According to the team principal, the Austrian team performed exactly as the team had actually predicted after the test days in Bahrain during the qualifying session at the Australian Grand Prix. Horner explains that Red Bull now has a good base and that there are clear signs that there is still time to be gained.

Horner was not surprised by Red Bull Racing falling behind McLaren, with the Brit saying it was the exact scenario Red Bull had been counting on in recent weeks: "It's very decent if I'm honest," he told Sky Sports. "After Bahrain, that's about what we expected, that is what we saw there. Well done to McLaren on both drivers putting in that last lap."

Red Bull sees room for improvement

Although things are not looking as positive for Red Bull Racing as it has done in previous seasons, Horner stressed that the team now has a good base for the rest of the season: "I think we have a solid platform from which to work on for the season ahead. We are not optimal with the car yet. Lap after lap, we're identical up to turn 11, and then we lost a little bit [of time] in the last couple of corners. I think we still have plenty to go at there."

All in all, he has high praise for the team."It was a good effort from the team. Yesterday the drivers were not happy with the balance. I think we improved the car a lot today.

"It was a shame with Liam missing FP3 at a track he had little experience at anyway. That put him on the back foot. But I think with Max, that was a very strong performance."

The Racing Bulls can also count on Horner's compliments: "Very good job from Yuki [Tsunoda], and Isack Hadjar as well doing a good job. It's good to see those guys going well. Tomorrow is going to be interesting. If what is forecasted arrives, it could all become irrelevant," he finally concluded.
