McLaren fear FIA clampdown on mini-DRS? 'We'll have to push it a bit more'
Ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, the FIA introduce a new technical directive to mitigate the mini-DRS effect, something McLaren took advantage of last year. On whether or not, the papaya team will have to make substantial changes, Lando Norris claimed that the TD was targeted at other teams.
During the Drivers' FIA press conference on Thursday it was natural that the topic would emerge, since McLaren driver, Norris, was a part of the line-up in the media session. Will McLaren have to make changes to the MCL39 to comply with the technical directive issues by the governing body ahead of the race weekend in China? "No, we don't have to change anything. Ours [McLaren's car] is fine," said Norris.
'FIA directive not targeted at McLaren but at other teams'
"In fact, ours is probably too good and we're probably not pushing the limits enough, honestly," said confidently, the Briton. "So, no, already if this technical directive was applied for last weekend, we'd also be fine."
As far as Norris is concerned the FIA directive would not be intended to rectify something in the design of the MCL39 at all. "It's not directed at us, it seems, it's directed at other teams. Which probably means we need to push it a little bit more," concluded the championship leader.
