In a recent interview for one of his personal sponsors, Sergio Perez revealed that "several doors" would be open for a return to Formula 1. Invariably, Cadillac are mentioned as the most logical destination for the Mexican in this regard. While there are indeed talks within the US team of possibly attracting Perez, things are not as far advanced as Mexican media in particular would lead us to believe.

Only just over a month has passed since Cadillac could know for sure they can join the F1 grid in the 2026 season. Before then, no decisions could be made on the team's two drivers, among others. However, with the entry ticket to the competition definitely in their pocket, work is underway to find the right drivers, Graeme Lowdon recently informed GPblog and others.

Cadillac still working with a long list

The British team principal then indicated that there are a lot of interesting drivers available. The list of familiar drivers - which includes the likes of Bottas, Zhou and Perez - is certainly being vigorously explored in the process. GPblog has learned that finding drivers for 2026 is really still in its initial phase at the moment. Yes, talks have already been held with potential drivers and their managers, but this is happening with a huge group of possible recruits.

This early in the season, anyway, it is not obvious to have concrete contract talks and then commit to people. After all, it is unknown which drivers might be on the market in the summer - when Silly Season usually begins in full force; drivers who currently have commitments elsewhere. The dream candidate for Cadillac might just be among them.
