Honda won their first race last time out in Austria and will be hoping to back that performance up with another impressive outing at the British Grand Prix this weekend. The Japanese manufacturer believes that they will need to upgrade their engine if they are to bridge the gap to Mercedes and Ferrari and consistently finish on the podium.

Honda believes that the area that they can improve in the most is qualifying and hopes that this is where their upgrades will benefit the two teams they supply.

"In qualifying, we see a bigger gap to the others and in the race, we are still behind them, but not so much as in qualifying," said Honda's technical director Toyoharu Tanabe to Motorsport-total.com"That means the next step will be in qualifying mode or something," he says. "But that's not easy."

"We will continue to develop and balance performance and reliability," said Formula 1 Director Masashi Yamamoto. "With updates, we want to make further improvements with Red Bull, of course, for next year, but if it's done and we think it has enough reliability and performance, we want to use it."

Red Bull will be pleased that Honda are still wanting to develop and build on their success. They will hope that they can continue to improve and perhaps next year they can be a genuine contender for the championship.
