What time does the British Grand Prix start?
This weekend Formula 1 heads to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. A number of teams have their team Head Quarters close to the circuit so it is a home Grand Prix for a large proportion of the grid. After Mercedes' dominance was ended at the Austrian Grand Prix it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back. Here is a breakdown of the weekend's busy schedule.
Friday 12th
The first day of the weekend sees the teams head out onto the track for two practice sessions. The idea of this time is for the drivers to get comfortable with the track and learn about which tyres and strategy they think is going to be best for the weekend. It also allows the team to try new things and see what is and what isn't working on their cars.
Free Practise 1 - 10:00 am to 11:30 am
Free Practise 2 - 14:00 pm to 15:30 pm
Saturday 13th
Saturday marks the start of the business end of the weekend. Teams go out for a final one hour practise session which provides them with a final opportunity to make sure everything is set up with their cars. In the afternoon qualifying begins and the teams battle it out to determine the starting order of the grid for Sunday's race.
Free Practise 3 - 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
Qualifying - 14:00 pm to 15:00 pm
Sunday 14th
This is the best day of the Grand Prix weekend as it is race day! All 20 drivers line up and race for about two hours. Silverstone is one of the most iconic circuits with fast corners and straights and provides a great spectacle for fans.
