Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz confirmed as McLaren 2020 drivers
Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz have been confirmed as McLaren's drivers for next season. The two have impressed this season and have secured their futures at the team. This confirmation means that Fernando Alonso will not be racing for the team next season, ending some of the speculation of the Spaniard's return.
Norris and Sainz have been two of the best drivers on the grid this season and their efforts have been recognized by the team. McLaren Racing chief executive officer Zak Brown said that staying with the two drivers was "never in doubt" but admits that other teams had been looking to sign the drivers.
"It was always the plan," Zak Brown said. "A lot of teams were sniffing around, a lot of teams are unhappy with both their drivers and given how Carlos and Lando were doing it was in our best interest to eliminate any speculation."
Both young drivers McLaren will hope to continue to develop with the two drivers.
McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl said: "They both have multi-year deals with us. Lando, of course, being the rookie we had to make it probation time, which he successfully managed in the first part of the season. And in order to have full clarity with the outside world, we wanted to confirm the driver line-up."
McLaren has been the most improved team this season and will hope that the consistency of the two drivers for next season will lead to more success.
