Christian Horner hints at Honda engine update: "Probably Monza or Spa"
Honda will be supplying Toro Rosso and Red Bull with an engine upgrade. It's expected to equal the power levels from that of Mercedes. Christian Horner has confirmed the upgrade is coming at either Monza or Spa following Formula 1's summer break.
During the British Grand Prix, both Red Bull cars were fighting with both Ferrari cars. Red Bul closed the gap to just 52 points in the constructors' championship despite the crash between Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
Horner revealed his frustration as he claimed: "a guaranteed podium" was lost. But Horner had some good news to share as they look to topple Ferrari. Both Verstappen and Pierre Gasly will pick up engine penalties for taking a new engine.
“We will probably change the engines at Monza or Spa, but it depends. Monza has always been a good place to start with a grid penalty," Horner jokes in a conversation with Motorsport-total.
Verstappen's win in Austria provided Honda with their first win since the Japanese engine manufacturer returned to the sport. While things are improving, Horner would still like a little bit more.
"I think they can still get more performance but they are definitely closing the gap," Horner added.
