Hamilton on fight with Bottas "If I were racing a Ferrari, you take more risks"
Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas opened the British Grand Prix in style with their battle during the first five laps of the Formula 1 race. Hamilton has since revealed that he would have taken different lines if he was racing against a rival from a different team.
Hamilton has plenty of experience when it comes to fighting against Mercedes teammates including collisions with former rival Nico Rosberg. The British Grand Prix winner talked through his battle with Bottas and claims he took different lines.
“If I were racing a Ferrari, you take more risks. Still respectful, but you can lean on them a bit more but as teammates, we sit down at the beginning of the race, we talk about Turn 1 and how we’re going to respect each other, make sure we don’t collide," Hamilton told Motorsport.com.
"And even when I overtook him and he was coming back, I could have swept across the front and blocked him – but that’s not the right thing to do."
Hamilton's victory, combined with the fastest lap point, pushes him further ahead in the Formula 1 world championship. The Brit now has a 39 point lead.
