Bottas: "We had a good strategy but I'm gutted"
Valtteri Bottas tried everything to ruin Charles Leclerc's race win in front of Ferrari's home crowd but he couldn't get close enough to pass the young 21-year-old. With three laps to go, Bottas managed to close the gap to less than half-a-second but a mistake at the first chicane left him too far behind.
Bottas had a younger set of tyres and had the mediums compared to Leclerc's hards. Bottas admitted he was "gutted" after his Mercedes team tried everything to get past his rival.
"I think we had a good strategy. We could go pretty long with the first stop and get close to him at the end. But I am gutted. There was no way past. Always when I was getting close the front started locking because of the lack of downforce," says Bottas.
"They are so quick on the straights as well, but I tried and I think that was the best we could do today."
