Karun Chandhok: "Over the radio, Max Verstappen sounds like a 40-year-old"
Max Verstappen has matured over the past few seasons and is no longer the hot-headed raw talent he was when we first saw him in Formula 1. Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok was impressed with how the Red Bull Racing driver composed himself at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
"It is a difficult circuit with only eight real curves, but with a lot of corner changes in the asphalt and difficult curbs that have an effect on the car. That is why the drivers will have to be extremely self-assured in order to achieve optimum to get lap time out of the car," Chandhok said in his Sky Sports F1 column.
"Max has never really had a lack of confidence and his competitive attitude was visible right from the first practice session. He was at the top of the times in every segment of the qualification, which was very impressive to see. The fact that his Q2 time was the was the fastest of the day, shows how close he was to getting the most out of the performance.
"His clarity in thinking when it comes to making decisions makes him sound like a 40-year-old. The dynamics and the relationship he has built with his engineer Gianpiero Lambiase is crucial for their successes on the circuit."
Verstappen has had a solid season and will hope that he is fighting for the top step on the podium in 2020 and for years to come.
