Marko: "He was the most mature Max we've ever seen
2019 was Max Verstappen's most successful season race win wise, securing three victories. His performances this season have drawn high praise from Helmut Marko who has described 2019 Verstappen as the "most mature" since he entered F1.
Verstappen is regarded by many to have been the driver of the year in 2019, winning the Austrian, German and Brazilian Grand Prix, as well as achieving his first-ever pole position. His form this season helped him to third in the Drivers' Championship ahead of both Ferrari drivers.
His maturity compared to other seasons has been highlighted throughout the year and it has now received praise from Helmut Marko.
"It was a very good season," Marko told Formule 1.
"We didn't have the car in the first half of the season - that was partly due to the chassis, but it was also because the engine development wasn't that far yet. In Austria, however, we came up with a new front wing, which worked perfectly. Then we had a car that was able to win on many circuits.
"It was a very mature season with Max, he was the most mature Max we've ever seen.
"He is calmer and is also incredibly good at the races. Whatever you tell him, he will learn. He can be very fast, while taking good care of his tyres."
