Leclerc: "Is not just about me and Verstappen in the future"
Charles Leclerc believes there's more to the future of Formula 1 than just a battle between himself and Max Verstappen. The two youngsters are already fighting at the top of the sport and look set to compete alongside each other for the duration of the new decade.
Verstappen and Leclerc, both 22, have shown promising signs but will compete with Lewis Hamilton for the time being. Looking further ahead, Leclerc is confident it won't be just them two fighting for titles.
"The future looks bright. It's really not just about me and Max in the future. A whole new generation with great talents is coming," Leclerc said in a conversation with Sky Italia.
The competition will come from different angles in the coming years. "Boys like Pierre Gasly, George Russell and Alexander Albon are examples of that. It will be extremely difficult to win in the coming years, but of course, I will do everything to stay ahead of them," Leclerc added.
Opportunities for Leclerc in 2020
Leclerc will drive for Ferrari until 2024. Next season he will again try to win the world title alongside Sebastian Vettel. According to the Ferrari driver, winning the title is going to be a tough job. "It won't be easy, but if I make fewer mistakes than last year, I should be able to give it a good shot."
