Sebastian Vettel will most likely never be seen in Ferrari red after 2020. The big question now is whether we will see him on another team next year. According to Lawrence Barretto of the official Formula 1 website, that depends entirely on the offers he gets.

According to Barretto, Vettel was still very enthusiastic and keen on victories when he was allowed to speak to the German one-on-one during the last winter tests in February. Since then, according to Vettel, the 'lockdown' has given him a lot of time to think about life and it has become clearer to him what is important to him. That could indicate an early retirement.

"But it was also clear that he sees the bigger picture, that Formula 1 is not everything. He has his family and a long list of things he’d love to have more time to spend doing", says Barretto, who then discusses a number of options in case Vettel decides to stay in Formula 1.

The two biggest contenders for Vettel are McLaren and Renault, depending on which driver takes over his seat at Ferrari. However, Barretto doesn't think that the four-time world champion is willing to act as a field padding, so those teams will have to sell him the competitiveness of their car for 2022.
