Aston Martin's acquisition of Racing Point raises high expectations. Many F1 leaders have already been linked to a switch to the new 2021 team. The Italian sports outlet Gazzetta dello Sport now believes that Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel are fighting for a seat on the team.

The Italian medium heads for the revival of an old rivalry. The two multiple world champions are free to go where they want for next year. Alonso is currently not active in F1 and Vettel will lose his place at Scuderia Ferrari after 2020 as well.

Both drivers are busy looking at their options for at least the coming year. At Renault, a spot also became available after the sudden carousel started with the departure of Vettel at Ferrari. Both top drivers didn't seem to qualify for a seat there. They both seem to have more confidence in Lawrence Stroll's Aston Martin now.

"Prepare to say goodbye to Perez of Stroll

With the billions from Stroll, the experience coming from Racing Point and the technology from Aston Martin, big plans have been made for the team. Attracting a driver like Alonso or Vettel isn't a crazy move. According to Gazzetta, sources in the paddock have indicated that the team is even prepared to say goodbye to Lance Stroll.

Of course one of the two drivers, Sergio Perez and Stroll, will have to make room for a possible entry of Vettel or Alonso. It seems most logical that Perez would then have to leave, since the surnames of Lance and Lawrence do not happen to be the same for no reason. One problem is that Perez signed a five-year contract last year. Another drawback would be the loss of 12 million a year in sponsor income by Perez.
