Hulkenberg spotted on Formula 1 paddock: Only coronatest can prevent comeback
- GPblog.com
Nico Hulkenberg seems to be set for a return to Formula 1 this weekend. The only thing that could keep the German from returning to Formula 1 is a positive test on the coronavirus. Let's hope that's not the case, as the Nico has a realistic shot for a podium finish this weekend.
Sergio Perez was tested positive on the coronavirus on Thursday, so he will not be able to compete in the UK Grand Prix and next weekend's race. So Racing Point has to look for a new driver. Where the reserve drivers of Mercedes, Esteban Guttierez and Stoffel Vandoorne, are ready, Racing Point seems to be going down a somewhat somewhat different road.
Hulkenberg returns
The team wants Nico Hulkenberg to replace Perez. The German driver has been driving for the team for five seasons and is currently without a seat in Formula 1 after the end of 2019. It would be a sensational comeback for the man who drove the most races without even being on the podium.
Where Hulkenberg was already mentioned as a possible replacement on Friday morning, German media now report that Hulkenberg will be in action. Hulkenberg was supposed to be on the paddock for RTL, but is now undergoing a test to drive for Racing Point. Several journalists have already spotted the driver.
Felix Görner from RTL confirmed this news. Nico was supposed to be a commentator at RTL this weekend but he informed them that he was asked by Racing Point if he is free to race for them. He did the COVID-test yesterday and waits for the results.
